Fatal Head-On Collision Reported in Lopburi
A severe traffic accident in Lopburi has resulted in one fatality and one critical injury following a vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, a fatal head-on collision occurred on August 30, 2026, in the Nikhom Sang Ton-Eng sub-district of Lopburi province. Police Lieutenant Colonel Somsak Thongkorn of the Mueang Lopburi Police Station received notification of the incident at approximately 3:40 a.m. near the Wat Tha Duea curve on the Nikhom-Khok Tum road.
Authorities arriving at the scene discovered a heavily damaged Toyota sedan and a Mazda sedan. The driver of the Toyota, identified as 34-year-old Mr. Sarayut, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mazda, 26-year-old Mr. Surawong, sustained critical injuries and was attended to by emergency responders and medical personnel from Phra Narai Maharat Hospital.
Preliminary reports suggest the Toyota sedan lost control while navigating the curve, crossing into the opposing lane and colliding with the Mazda. For residents and travelers in the area, this incident highlights the risks associated with the winding sections of the Nikhom-Khok Tum route, particularly during late-night hours. While the immediate cause of the loss of control remains under investigation by local police, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of caution on provincial roads.
