Heavy Rainfall and Rough Seas Forecast Across Thailand
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued an alert for increased rainfall and high waves due to a strong southwest monsoon and a monsoon trough.
On August 29, 2026, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a weather alert regarding intensified rainfall across Thailand. The current weather pattern is driven by a monsoon trough extending across the upper North and upper Laos, connecting to a low-pressure cell near the coast of upper Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin. Simultaneously, a rather strong southwest monsoon is prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf.
Residents and travelers should anticipate increased rainfall throughout the country, with isolated heavy rains expected. The Northeast and East regions are specifically noted as areas where isolated very heavy rainfall is possible.
Marine conditions are also affected by the strong winds. In the upper Andaman Sea, wave heights are forecast to reach 2–3 meters, potentially exceeding 3 meters during thundershowers. In the upper Gulf of Thailand, waves are expected to reach approximately 2 meters, with heights exceeding 2 meters in areas experiencing thundershowers.
