Thai Authorities Report Major Crackdown on Counterfeit Goods

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) has intensified its efforts to combat intellectual property violations. During the first seven months of 2026, authorities conducted 512 enforcement actions, resulting in the seizure of more than 1.84 million counterfeit products. The economic damage associated with these seized goods is estimated at over 809 million baht.

Director-General Oramon Sapthaweetham stated that the DIP is working in coordination with the Royal Thai Police, the Customs Department, and the Department of Special Investigation to disrupt the supply chain of fake goods, targeting both online and offline sales channels. This initiative aligns with the government's broader policy to protect intellectual property rights.

For residents and travelers, this crackdown highlights the government's ongoing efforts to regulate the marketplace. While the seizure of these goods aims to protect consumers and brand integrity, it also serves as a reminder of the prevalence of counterfeit items in various retail sectors. Looking ahead, the DIP has announced plans to destroy over 2 million items from finalized cases, with a total value exceeding 2.145 billion baht, scheduled for September 10, 2026.
