Proposed Road Link Between Phatthalung and Satun Aims to Boost Southern Connectivity

On August 29, 2026, Deputy Interior Minister Worasit Leangprasit visited Phu Pha Phet Cave in Satun province to inspect the progress of a feasibility study for a new road project connecting Pa Bon District in Phatthalung with Manang District in Satun. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the initiative is designed to create a more direct transport and logistics link between the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea.

Currently, travel between Phatthalung and Satun is inefficient, requiring residents and travelers to take circuitous routes ranging from 145 to 243 kilometers. Officials believe that establishing a direct connection will significantly reduce travel time and distance, potentially stimulating the regional economy and addressing long-standing transportation challenges for local communities.

For residents and travelers, this project could eventually offer a much faster and more convenient way to traverse the southern region, potentially opening up new tourism routes between the two coasts. However, it is important to note that the project is currently in the feasibility study phase. No construction timeline or final approval has been announced, and the project remains subject to further evaluation by the government.
