Department of Internal Trade Boosts Southern Mangosteen Distribution

Thai authorities are facilitating the distribution of 139,000 tons of southern mangosteen by connecting production hubs with major markets and modern retail chains.

On August 29, 2026, the Thai Department of Internal Trade (DIT) announced a strategic initiative to manage the distribution of 139,000 tons of mangosteen from southern Thailand. According to Deputy Director-General Chantapat Panjamanon, the department is linking the Morakot Fruit Market in Chumphon with the Si Mum Muang Market in Pathum Thani to streamline the supply chain from producers to consumers.

This initiative aims to support local farmers and entrepreneurs by expanding market access through modern trade channels and online promotional activities. At the Morakot Market, the DIT hosted events featuring celebrity Pinky Savika to increase public awareness of the market’s offerings. Additionally, the department introduced a promotional incentive for durian traders, offering 200-baht cash coupons to those bringing shipments of one ton or more to the market to stimulate trade activity.

For residents and travelers, this effort signifies a concerted push to ensure the availability of high-quality seasonal southern fruits across the country. While these measures are currently in effect to support the peak harvest season, it remains to be seen how these distribution channels will impact retail prices for consumers in the long term. The DIT continues to monitor market demand to ensure that the increased supply is effectively absorbed by the 200 participating modern trade branches and central markets.
