On the night of August 28, 2026, a fire broke out at the Khlong Thom Center in the Pom Prap Sattru Phai district of Bangkok. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt arrived at the scene to monitor the situation, confirming that there are no reports of individuals trapped inside the building.
According to reports from Khaosod Online, the fire is believed to have originated on the first floor, where a high volume of stored goods acted as fuel, causing the flames to spread rapidly. The building’s steel structure is currently at risk of collapse due to intense heat, with some roof sections already showing signs of structural failure. Firefighters are primarily working from the exterior to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent shophouses, as the building's facade has hindered water access to the interior. While the facility is equipped with a sprinkler system, it appears insufficient to contain the blaze.
For residents and travelers, the area remains hazardous, and authorities have restricted entry to ensure public safety while structural risks are assessed. The Governor noted that local fire hydrants are being utilized to support the operation. The exact cause of the fire and the full extent of the structural damage remain to be confirmed by officials once the scene is secured.
