Landslides and Fallen Trees Block Route to Ban I-Tong
Heavy rainfall has caused landslides and fallen trees on the road to the popular tourist village of Ban I-Tong in Kanchanaburi, halting all traffic.
On August 28, 2026, the Pilok Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO) issued an urgent warning regarding the road leading to Ban I-Tong, a well-known mountain village in Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi. Continuous heavy rain has triggered landslides and caused trees to fall, blocking the route between Ban Rai and Ban I-Tong, specifically between kilometers 15 and 16.
According to Khaosod Online, all vehicle traffic is currently suspended. Reports indicate that some tourists are stranded near the kilometer 12 viewpoint, while other motorists have been forced to turn back to wait in the Ban I-Tong community. The 399-curve mountain road is currently experiencing significant congestion and hazardous conditions.
Local authorities, including the Department of Rural Roads, Thong Pha Phum National Park officials, and the Pilok SAO, are actively deploying machinery to clear the debris. Officials have advised the public to avoid the Ban Rai–Ban I-Tong route entirely. For those already in the vicinity, extreme caution is urged due to slippery road surfaces and the ongoing risk of further landslides. Authorities have stated they will provide updates as soon as the road is reopened. It remains to be confirmed exactly when the route will be cleared for safe passage.
