Thailand Issues Nationwide Alert for Heavy Rain and Flooding (Aug 29 – Sept 2)
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has warned 51 provinces and Bangkok to prepare for flash floods, landslides, and strong waves.
According to Khaosod Online, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued a nationwide alert for 51 provinces, including Bangkok, regarding potential flash floods, forest runoff, landslides, and waterlogging. This warning is in effect from August 29 to September 2, 2026.
Director-General Theerapat Kachamat stated that the Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command is monitoring weather conditions following a forecast from the Thai Meteorological Department. A monsoon trough is expected to move across the upper North and Northeast regions, interacting with a low-pressure system near the coast of Vietnam. Simultaneously, the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand is strengthening.
For travelers and residents, this weather pattern brings a high risk of heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly in the upper North, upper Northeast, and eastern regions. Furthermore, the upper Andaman Sea is expected to experience strong winds and waves reaching heights of 2 to 3 meters.
While the alert covers a broad area, specific localized impacts remain to be confirmed as the weather system develops. Residents and visitors in affected areas are advised to monitor local news and official updates closely. Caution is urged for those planning maritime activities or travel through mountainous regions prone to landslides during this period.
