Small Dog Defends Sleeping Owner from Large Snake in Samut Prakan
A seven-year-old Poodle-Shih Tzu mix gained social media attention after protecting its owner from a two-meter-long rat snake that entered a home in Phra Pradaeng.
On August 28, 2026, a dramatic encounter occurred in a residence located in the Samrong sub-district of Phra Pradaeng, Samut Prakan. According to a report by Khaosod Online, a seven-year-old mixed-breed dog named 'Khao Tang' successfully alerted its owner, 31-year-old Chaiyarat, to the presence of a large snake that had slithered into the home.
Chaiyarat was reportedly sleeping on a wooden chair in front of the television when the snake approached him. Khao Tang immediately intervened, engaging the reptile and waking his owner in the process. The snake retreated under a cabinet, prompting Chaiyarat to contact the Poo Chao Saming Phrai Municipality disaster prevention and mitigation team. Upon arrival, officials identified the intruder as a rat snake measuring over two meters in length. The snake was safely captured and subsequently released back into the wild.
For residents and travelers in Thailand, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining awareness regarding local wildlife, particularly in areas near gardens or semi-rural environments. While such encounters are not uncommon in tropical climates, it remains unconfirmed how the snake gained entry to the home or if there are further risks of wildlife intrusion in the immediate vicinity.
