Thai Ministry of Digital Economy Warns of Fake SEC Investment Scams
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has issued a warning regarding fraudulent investment schemes using the SEC’s name and logo to deceive the public.
On August 28, 2026, Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), through the Anti-Fake News Center (AFNC), issued a public warning regarding a new wave of investment scams. According to Khaosod Online, criminals are distributing fake QR codes and utilizing the name and logo of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to create a false sense of legitimacy and security for fraudulent investment opportunities.
The MDES, under the direction of Minister Chaiychanok Chidchob, is prioritizing public awareness regarding technological crimes and misinformation. On August 26, 2026, the AFNC monitored over 109,000 messages, identifying over 11,000 that required verification.
For residents and travelers in Thailand, this serves as a critical reminder to exercise extreme caution when encountering investment solicitations online. Engaging with these fraudulent schemes poses a significant risk of financial loss and the compromise of personal data. The Ministry advises the public to verify the legitimacy of any investment service provider by using the 'SEC Check First' tool or by calling the SEC hotline at 1207 (ext. 22) before transferring any funds. As of now, it remains to be confirmed how many individuals have already fallen victim to this specific campaign, but authorities are actively working to mitigate the spread of these deceptive messages.
