Proposed 100 Billion Baht Southern Double-Track Railway Expansion

According to Prachachat Business, Thailand’s Minister of Transport, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, intends to submit a proposal for a major railway expansion during the mobile cabinet meeting scheduled for September 1. The project involves the construction of three double-track railway lines spanning a total distance of 504 kilometers, stretching from Chumphon to Padang Besar.

The initiative is estimated to cost approximately 100 billion baht. For residents and travelers, this development represents a significant potential upgrade to the southern rail corridor, which could eventually lead to improved travel times, increased capacity, and more reliable connectivity between central Thailand and the Malaysian border.
