Thai Handwoven Textiles Gain Global Spotlight at 2026 Asian Games
The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) is promoting Thai community textiles globally, highlighted by the inclusion of Don Koi village fabrics in the 2026 Asian Games uniforms.
According to Khaosod Online, the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) under the Ministry of Commerce is actively advancing the 'Thai Textiles: Wearable Fun' initiative. This project, inspired by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, aims to modernize local weaving wisdom and integrate it into international fashion markets.
A significant milestone for this initiative is the selection of handwoven cotton from Don Koi village in Sakon Nakhon province. These textiles have been incorporated into the official ceremonial uniforms for the Thai delegation at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. The uniforms were designed by the SIRIVANNAVARI brand, led by the Princess herself.
For residents and visitors, this development underscores a growing emphasis on sustainable local craftsmanship and the potential for Thai community products to reach global audiences.
