Thailand Meteorological Department Issues Heavy Rain Warning for Late August

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued its fifth announcement regarding severe weather conditions expected across the country. According to Khaosod Online, a monsoon trough is shifting toward the upper North and Northeast regions, interacting with a low-pressure system near Vietnam. This atmospheric activity, combined with a strengthening southwest monsoon, is forecast to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to parts of the North, Central, Northeast, and Eastern regions between August 29 and September 2, 2026.

For residents and travelers, this weather pattern poses a risk of flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near mountain slopes. The TMD advises the public to exercise caution when traveling through areas prone to recurring flooding. Furthermore, maritime conditions are expected to deteriorate; the upper Andaman Sea may experience waves between 2 and 3 meters, with heights exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are expected to see waves around 2 meters, rising higher in stormy conditions. Mariners are urged to navigate with extreme caution.
