Authorities Target Foreign Capital Links in Uttaradit Illegal Logging Case
Thai officials have launched an investigation into foreign financial backing behind a major illegal logging operation in Uttaradit province.
On August 28, 2026, Thai authorities announced the successful apprehension of a major illegal logging syndicate operating in Uttaradit province. The operation was a joint effort involving the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP), the Royal Forest Department, and the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division (NED).
During a press conference, DNP Director-General Athapol Charoenshunsa revealed that the investigation has uncovered evidence linking the illegal timber trade to foreign investors. Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suchart has subsequently ordered the DNP and the Royal Forest Department to expand the investigation to identify and prosecute these foreign capital sources.
