Thai Parliament Promotes Staff Wellness with 'Healthy Parliament' Initiative

House Speaker Sophon Sarum led a closing ceremony for the 'Healthy Parliament' aerobics competition, aimed at improving staff health and workplace unity.

On August 28, 2026, at the Thai Parliament, House Speaker Sophon Sarum presided over the closing ceremony of the 'Healthy Parliament' (Kon Sapha Rai Phung) project. The initiative, organized by the Parliament’s Medical Services Bureau, featured an aerobics dance competition involving nine teams from various parliamentary departments.

According to Khaosod Online, the program was designed to address the sedentary nature of modern office work and high stress levels among parliamentary staff. By using aerobics as a medium, the project aims to improve cardiovascular health, reduce the risk of chronic non-communicable diseases, and foster teamwork and unity across different administrative units. During the event, Speaker Sophon participated in an exercise session led by instructors from Suan Dusit University and expressed his intention to continue and expand the project in future years.

For residents and visitors, this initiative highlights a growing emphasis on public health and workplace wellness within Thailand’s government institutions. While the event focused on internal staff, it reflects a broader national trend toward promoting active lifestyles to combat work-related stress. It remains to be confirmed how the Parliament plans to scale this program in 2027 and whether similar wellness initiatives will be integrated into other government sectors to improve public service efficiency.
