Krabi Dismisses Over 100 Officials Following Local Exam Fraud Scandal
Local government authorities in Krabi have begun terminating the employment of officials implicated in a widespread local civil service examination cheating scheme.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on August 28, 2026, administrative bodies across Krabi province—including the Provincial Administrative Organization, municipalities, and sub-district administrative organizations—have initiated the dismissal of civil servants linked to a local examination fraud scandal.
Investigations revealed that 158 individuals were appointed across two recruitment cohorts in Krabi. Following a review, 121 of these individuals were found to be ineligible or absent from the revised official results list. To date, over 100 of these officials have been formally dismissed. Some of those removed have admitted to paying 400,000 THB to secure their positions, allegedly facilitated by a relative working as a civil servant in Phuket.
For residents and expatriates, this development highlights ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to address corruption within local administrative structures. While the immediate impact on daily public services remains to be seen, the removal of these officials may lead to temporary staffing adjustments in local government offices. It remains to be confirmed when the remaining dismissals will be finalized and whether further investigations will expand to other provinces or involve additional personnel.
