The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) has released an official alert (No. 1/2569) warning of potential flash floods, waterlogging, and overflowing riverbanks across Thailand. According to Khaosod Online, this advisory is in effect from August 29 through September 2, 2026.

This weather pattern is driven by a strong low-pressure system near the coast of upper Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin, combined with a strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. These conditions are expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly impacting the upper North, upper Northeast, and eastern regions of the country.

For residents and travelers, this alert highlights a heightened risk of flash floods, forest runoff, and landslides. Specific areas identified for close monitoring include districts in Mae Hong Son (Khun Yuam, Pai, Sop Moei), Chiang Rai (Chiang Saen, Mae Sai, Phaya Mengrai, Mae Fah Luang, Mae Chan, Doi Luang, Wiang Pa Pao, Chiang Khong), and Chiang Mai (Phrao, Chiang Dao).
