Police Hunt Suspect After Armed Gold Shop Robbery in Sa Kaeo
Authorities in Aranyaprathet are investigating a gold shop heist involving improvised explosives and the theft of 5 million baht in jewelry.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, police in Aranyaprathet, Sa Kaeo province, are actively pursuing a suspect following a brazen robbery at a gold shop located within a local shopping mall. The perpetrator, who disguised their identity using a hat and a wig, reportedly utilized four improvised explosive devices to facilitate the crime. Two of these devices detonated during the incident, while the other two failed to explode.
The suspect successfully fled the scene on a motorcycle after seizing gold necklaces and bracelets weighing a total of 72 baht, with an estimated value exceeding 5 million baht. Investigators later discovered the wig and clothing used during the robbery discarded and burned.
Pol. Col. Weerapong Kongkaew, Superintendent of Aranyaprathet Police Station, stated on August 28, 2026, that a joint task force from the provincial and local police is currently reviewing CCTV footage to trace the suspect's escape route. Authorities suspect the individual may have had prior knowledge of the area, given the strategic use of shortcuts and side streets during the getaway. For residents and travelers in the area, this incident highlights an ongoing police investigation.
