GSB Launches Debt Consolidation Loan to Ease Financial Burdens

The Government Savings Bank (GSB) has introduced a new loan program allowing individuals to consolidate multiple debts into a single manageable payment.

According to Khaosod Online, the Government Savings Bank (GSB) has launched the 'GSB Loan for Retail Debt Resolution' to assist individuals across various professions in managing their financial obligations. GSB Director Vitai Ratanakorn stated that the initiative aims to provide liquidity and reduce the burden of rising living costs for both formal employees and informal workers, such as freelancers and small-scale traders.

Under this program, applicants can consolidate existing debts into a single loan with the bank. The maximum loan amount is 200,000 THB per person, with a cap of 50,000 THB for those specifically addressing informal debt. The interest rate is a fixed flat rate starting from 0.75% per month, depending on the collateral provided. Borrowers may repay the loan over a period of up to five years, or 60 installments.

For residents, this measure may offer a pathway to stabilize personal finances amidst current economic challenges. For travelers, while this does not directly impact tourism, it reflects the government's ongoing efforts to address household debt levels in Thailand. It remains to be confirmed how many applicants will qualify under the bank's specific collateral requirements and internal credit assessment criteria.
