Anti-Corruption Police Investigate Bribery Scheme Involving Local Government Exams

According to a report by Khaosod Online on August 28, 2026, the Anti-Corruption Division (ACD) is investigating a bribery scheme involving local government recruitment exams. Two suspects, identified as Mr. Prawit—known as 'Mayor Heng'—and Ms. Nawaporn, an official at a sub-district administrative organization (SAO) in Si Sa Ket province, were arrested on charges of acting as intermediaries to solicit bribes for civil service placements.

Investigators allege that the suspects recruited candidates for local government positions, promising successful exam results in exchange for money. Ms. Nawaporn reportedly acted as the primary recruiter, but allegedly exceeded the available quota, resulting in over 40 applicants failing to secure positions despite paying bribes. When these candidates did not receive their promised placements, the suspects reportedly refused to issue refunds, claiming they were attempting to secure alternative vacancies in other regions, such as the North.

Both suspects have denied the allegations, which include violations of Section 143 of the Criminal Code and Section 175 of the Anti-Corruption Act. They have been released on bail after posting 200,000 baht each. For residents and expatriates, this case highlights ongoing scrutiny into administrative integrity in Thailand. While the investigation is active, it remains to be confirmed how many individuals were involved in the scheme and whether further arrests will follow as police continue to trace the financial records.
