Thailand Promotes Community-Based Coconut Processing Centers

According to a report by Prachachat Business on August 28, 2026, Thailand’s Department of Internal Trade is advancing a new initiative to support the aromatic coconut industry. The project utilizes the 'Harmony Model' to establish community-run processing centers, known as 'longs,' which aim to streamline the journey of coconuts from farms to the market.

Currently, 12 community enterprises across six provinces have joined the program, exceeding the initial target of 10 centers. The initiative focuses on a comprehensive development strategy, including reducing production costs, enhancing product quality, and improving the processes of collection, sorting, and value-added processing.

For residents and travelers, this development highlights a push toward more organized local agricultural supply chains, which may lead to more consistent availability and quality of aromatic coconut products in local markets. By strengthening the role of community enterprises, the government aims to create a more sustainable economic model for coconut farmers.
