Thailand Launches GI Product Expansion into Singapore Market
The Department of Intellectual Property is promoting Thai Geographical Indication (GI) food products in Singapore through both physical exhibitions and digital cross-border e-commerce.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) has initiated a strategic push to expand the presence of Thai Geographical Indication (GI) products in Singapore. This initiative serves as a pilot project for both physical and digital market penetration.
As part of this effort, six selected Thai GI food products were showcased at the APAC Food & Beverage Expo 2026. Beyond physical exhibitions, the DIP is actively engaging with major e-commerce platforms, specifically Shopee and TikTok, to establish pathways for cross-border online sales. The goal is to create a robust digital infrastructure that allows these authentic Thai products to reach international consumers more effectively.
For residents and travelers, this development highlights an increasing effort to standardize and promote high-quality, region-specific Thai goods on the global stage. While the initiative focuses on export growth, it may eventually lead to greater availability of certified Thai GI products in regional markets.
At this stage, specific details regarding the timeline for the full integration of these products into the mentioned e-commerce platforms remain to be confirmed. Furthermore, the long-term impact of this pilot project on the broader export strategy for other Thai GI categories has yet to be determined.
