ThaiHealth and NSM Launch 'Alphaland' to Combat Childhood Obesity

According to a report from Khaosod Online Thailand, the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) has partnered with the National Science Museum (NSM) to address rising concerns regarding childhood health. Data from the ThaiHealth Watch 2024 report indicates that 13.7% of Thai school-aged children, between 6 and 14 years old, are currently classified as overweight or obese.

To combat these trends, the organizations have launched an exhibition titled 'Alphaland: Fit and Fun Mission' as part of the 2026 National Science and Technology Fair. The initiative focuses on three core pillars: nutrition, physical activity, and sleep quality. By integrating health education with scientific learning, the project aims to instill better daily habits in children and their families through hands-on activities.

For residents and visitors, this initiative highlights a growing national focus on public health and preventative care for the younger generation. Nakarin Pharamoratat, acting director of the ThaiHealth Learning Center, emphasized that addressing weight-related issues during primary and secondary school years is critical for long-term well-being. While the exhibition provides an educational platform for families, the long-term impact of these interventions on national obesity rates remains to be confirmed as the program continues to engage the public.
