Tragic Wild Elephant Encounter in Chonburi Rubber Plantation
A 38-year-old man died after being attacked by a wild elephant while working in a rubber plantation in Chonburi province.
On the morning of August 28, 2026, a 38-year-old man identified as Mr. Pichai was killed by a wild elephant in the That Thong sub-district of Bo Thong, Chonburi. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. while the victim was working in a rubber plantation with his wife, Ms. Nuwan.
Ms. Nuwan reported that her husband was working when he was suddenly pursued by a wild elephant. In an apparent attempt to lead the animal away from his wife, the victim diverted his path. Tragically, he was overtaken by the elephant and sustained fatal injuries. Local police, rescue teams from Sawang Het Ban Thung Hiang, and forestry officials from the Khao Chao Bo Thong Waterfall National Park arrived at the scene to find the victim’s body and evidence of elephant tracks.
For residents and travelers in rural areas of Chonburi, this incident serves as a somber reminder of the risks associated with proximity to wildlife habitats. While the immediate area is being investigated, authorities have not yet released details regarding specific measures to manage the elephant population in this plantation zone. It remains to be confirmed whether this elephant had been previously identified by park officials or if additional safety warnings will be issued for those working in or visiting the vicinity of the national park.
