Electrician Arrested for Theft in Udon Thani
Police in Udon Thani have apprehended an electrician accused of stealing gold jewelry from a client's home shortly after being hired for electrical work.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, police from the Dong Yen station in Udon Thani province successfully arrested a 32-year-old man, identified as Somchai, on August 27, 2026. The arrest followed a complaint filed by a 57-year-old resident of Ban Dung district, who reported that her gold necklace and pendant, valued at approximately 140,000 baht, had been stolen from her home.
The victim had hired the suspect to perform electrical installation work at her residence. After the theft was reported on the morning of August 26, investigators tracked the suspect and apprehended him by midday on August 27. Authorities recovered 82,900 baht in cash, which they believe was obtained after the suspect sold the stolen items.
For residents and expatriates in Thailand, this incident serves as a reminder to exercise caution when hiring contractors or service workers for home repairs. While this case was resolved quickly by local law enforcement, it highlights the importance of verifying the credentials of individuals granted access to private property.
