Police Seize Illegal AR-15 Arsenal in Bangkok
Thai authorities have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly smuggling multiple AR-15 rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition into the country.
On August 27, 2026, officers from the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) conducted a raid resulting in the arrest of a 24-year-old man, identified as Kanawat, according to a report by Khaosod Online. During the operation, police seized a significant cache of weapons, including 10 unregistered AR-15 rifles, one registered .22 caliber rifle, and 12 magazines for 5.56 ammunition, alongside thousands of rounds of ammunition.
The suspect reportedly confessed to ordering the firearms from overseas. Police officials, including Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom, stated that they are currently expanding the investigation to determine the full extent of the smuggling network and the intended use of the weapons.
