A gas station in Si Sa Ket damaged by a BM-21 rocket during a border clash with Cambodia may not receive government compensation due to current regulatory limitations.
On August 27, 2026, Rakchanok Srinok, a list MP for the People's Party and chair of the House Committee on Budget Management, addressed the status of compensation for a gas station in Ban Phue, Kantharalak District, Si Sa Ket Province. The facility sustained damage from a BM-21 rocket during a border clash between Thailand and Cambodia.
According to Khaosod Online, the committee held a meeting with the station owner, Kamonrat Phonsetlerd, alongside representatives from the Si Sa Ket Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the Prime Minister's Office. The committee noted that current Ministry of Finance regulations primarily cover compensation for injuries and fatalities, leaving private property damage outside the scope of existing relief funds.
While the government previously indicated an intent to provide assistance, the current regulatory framework does not explicitly support private business recovery. Rakchanok has urged relevant agencies to review and potentially adjust these criteria to ensure fair compensation for this and similar incidents. For residents and travelers in border regions, this situation highlights the ongoing administrative challenges in addressing the economic fallout of cross-border security incidents.
