Pattaya Prepares for Arrival of 5,000 U.S. Navy Personnel
Pattaya authorities are increasing security and urging fair pricing as the USS Abraham Lincoln prepares to dock in Chonburi next week.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, Pattaya is preparing to welcome the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which is scheduled to dock in Chonburi province next week following the completion of its mission in the Middle East. Local authorities anticipate that approximately 5,000 personnel will come ashore to visit the city for rest and recreation.
Pol. Col. Anek Sarathongyu, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police, stated that the department has been ordered to increase security measures and patrols throughout the area. This effort includes coordination with neighboring police jurisdictions to ensure the safety of the visiting personnel, local residents, and other tourists.
For residents and travelers, this influx is expected to stimulate the local economy as personnel engage in dining, shopping, and sightseeing. However, local officials have issued a stern warning to business operators, urging them to act as good hosts and refrain from charging unfair prices or exploiting the visitors. Authorities emphasized that maintaining fair practices is essential to preserving Pattaya’s reputation and preventing potential conflicts. While the arrival is expected next week, specific dates for the docking and the duration of the personnel's stay remain to be confirmed by official naval schedules.
