Prime Minister Anutin Addresses Political Speculation Regarding Opposition Stage
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has dismissed concerns that a Pheu Thai member's participation in an opposition-led political forum will destabilize the government.
On August 27, 2026, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed media inquiries regarding the upcoming participation of Dr. Cholnan Srikaew, a Pheu Thai Party MP, in an opposition forum titled 'Thai Politics in a Crisis of Confidence,' scheduled for August 29.
When asked if Dr. Cholnan’s appearance on the opposition stage might affect government stability or voting cohesion, the Prime Minister expressed confidence in the coalition’s adherence to established political etiquette. He emphasized that the government remains stable and that coalition members understand their roles and responsibilities.
During the interview, the Prime Minister also addressed questions regarding his own name appearing in an Election Commission (EC) investigation related to the selection of senators. He stated that he has not yet been summoned to provide testimony but is prepared to cooperate fully with legal processes when required. He noted that this investigation originated during the previous administration and maintained that he has not exerted any influence to alter the proceedings.
For residents and travelers, this development highlights the ongoing political discourse in Thailand. While the government maintains that coalition relations are intact, the public remains attentive to how political figures navigate cross-party discussions. It remains to be confirmed how the opposition forum will proceed and whether any specific allegations regarding the senate selection process will be substantiated by the Election Commission.
