Thailand Launches Nuclear Energy Technology Hub to Support Clean Energy Transition
The Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology and Altervim have partnered with 13 organizations to establish a new nuclear energy expertise center.
On August 26, 2026, the Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Altervim, a subsidiary of Charoen Pokphand Group, alongside various government, academic, and industrial partners. According to Khaosod Online, this collaboration aims to establish the 'Hub of Talents for Nuclear Energy Technology' (HOTNET).
Supported by funding from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), the initiative seeks to build a knowledge network and develop specialized personnel in nuclear technology. The project is designed to support Thailand’s transition toward clean energy systems and enhance the nation's readiness to address future technological, energy, and climate-related challenges. The signing ceremony was presided over by Professor Dr. Yoschanan Wongsawad, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation.
For residents and travelers, this development signals a long-term shift in Thailand’s national energy strategy. While the hub focuses on research and human resource development rather than immediate infrastructure deployment, it reflects a broader governmental commitment to diversifying the energy mix. It remains to be confirmed how this research will translate into specific energy policies or future power generation projects, as the current scope is limited to the establishment of the expertise center and personnel training.
