Monk Defrocked in Suphan Buri Following Drug Discovery
A monk in Suphan Buri province has been defrocked after authorities discovered methamphetamine pills in his quarters and confirmed drug use via a urine test.
According to a report by Khaosod English on August 27, 2026, a monk residing in the Muang district of Suphan Buri has been removed from the monkhood. The action followed an operation led by district chief Sittiporn Khomhom, which was initiated after local authorities received a tip-off from a concerned citizen regarding potential illicit activity at the temple.
Upon searching the monk’s living quarters, officials discovered two methamphetamine pills. Subsequent testing of the monk’s urine returned a positive result for the presence of the drug. Following these findings, the individual was formally defrocked.
