Election Commission Defends Barcode Usage on Ballots
The Election Commission of Thailand has expressed confidence in the legality of using barcodes on ballots following a site inspection by the Constitutional Court.
On August 27, 2026, Thai Post reported that the Constitutional Court conducted an on-site inspection regarding the use of barcodes on election ballots. The proceedings involved the Office of the Ombudsman and the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) to examine the storage facilities and the evidence related to the ballot design.
Sawaeng Bunmee, Secretary-General of the ECT, stated that the commission is confident that the inclusion of barcodes on ballot papers does not violate the Constitution. He noted that the commission has provided comprehensive facts to the court, asserting that the process was sound from the moment the barcodes were implemented on the paper.
