Parliamentary Committee Investigates Alleged Corruption in Local Government Recruitment
A House committee is investigating claims that a former mayor paid 2 million baht to secure government positions for individuals, only for the placements to fail.
According to a report by Thai Post on August 27, 2026, the House Committee on Corruption Prevention and Suppression is investigating allegations of bribery within local government recruitment processes. The inquiry follows testimony from a former mayor of Tat Thong Municipality, who reportedly paid 2 million baht in an attempt to secure civil service positions for several individuals. Despite the payment, none of the candidates were successfully placed in government roles.
Asaphol, a representative involved in the committee, stated that current evidence links the alleged misconduct to officials at the director-general level. At this stage, the investigation has not established a connection to political figures. The committee plans to summon individuals involved in the 2021 recruitment process to provide further testimony regarding these irregularities.
