Illegal Booking Agent Arrested in Phuket Over Luxury Villa Scam
Police in Phuket have apprehended a woman accused of defrauding tourists of over 5 million baht through fake luxury villa bookings.
On August 27, 2026, Region 8 Police arrested a woman identified as Thanaporn, also known as 'Yu,' at her residence in Thalang District, Phuket. The arrest followed three outstanding warrants for fraud. According to Khaosod Online, the investigation began after two Russian tourists sought assistance from the Transnational Crime Suppression Center, reporting that they had been deceived by a fraudulent booking agent.
The victims alleged that the suspect posed as an agent for various luxury villas in Phuket, using photos and detailed descriptions to solicit bookings. One victim reportedly transferred 1.5 million baht for a villa in Choeng Thale, while a second victim transferred 500,000 baht. Upon arrival in Thailand, the tourists discovered their bookings were invalid. Authorities estimate the total damages from the suspect's activities to exceed 5 million baht.
