Thai Parliamentary Committee Investigates Alleged Bribery in Local Government Recruitment
A House committee is investigating claims that a former local mayor paid over 2 million baht to secure government jobs for five individuals, only to be defrauded.
On August 27, 2026, the House Committee on Corruption Prevention and Suppression held a hearing regarding allegations of bribery within local government recruitment processes. As reported by Khaosod Online, the committee summoned Mr. Piboon Faidee, a former mayor of Tat Thong Subdistrict in Yasothon Province, to provide testimony.
Mr. Piboon previously filed a police report in Si Sa Ket Province, alleging that he paid over 2 million baht to a broker to secure civil service positions for five people. However, after the official recruitment results were announced, none of the individuals were hired. Mr. Asapol Santraipop, the committee chairman and a Bhumjaithai Party MP, stated that the hearing aims to gather facts and document evidence regarding this case. The committee has also invited representatives from the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), and the Anti-Corruption Division to assist in the inquiry.

While the committee noted that current investigations into local exam fraud have reached the level of department heads, no direct links to political figures have been established at this stage.
