Songkhla Province Dismisses 74 Local Officials Over Exam Fraud

According to a report from Khaosod Online Thailand on August 27, 2026, the Songkhla Central Committee has issued dismissal orders for 74 local government officials linked to a local examination fraud case. The affected individuals were part of a group of 114 officials whose recruitment was under review.

Of the total group, 40 officials were cleared to remain in their current positions as they were found to have passed the examination process correctly. One individual, who passed the exam but had not yet reached the required ranking, was dismissed but remains eligible for future recall once their ranking is reached. The remaining 73 individuals, who were found not to have passed the examination or were not on the official list, have been ordered to leave their posts. The dismissals affect various local administrative organizations, including one official from the Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO), 22 from municipalities, and 51 from Sub-district Administrative Organizations (SAO). The orders are set to take effect on August 31, 2026.

For residents and expatriates, this administrative action highlights ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to ensure the integrity of local government staffing. While this internal restructuring is unlikely to impact daily tourism, it may cause temporary service delays in specific local administrative offices as staffing adjustments are finalized.
