NANOTEC Unveils Three Herbal Innovations to Boost High-Value Market Potential
Thailand’s National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) has introduced three new herbal-based products developed in partnership with private firms to enhance the commercial value of Thai medicinal plants.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, the National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation has launched three innovative products derived from Thai herbs. These developments are part of a project titled 'Creating Value for Herbal Products for High-Value New Markets.'
The three innovations include effervescent tablets made from turmeric particles, a product designed to reduce sun-induced melasma using pig placenta extract, and an antifungal treatment for pets formulated with Rhinacanthus nasutus (Thong Pan Chang) and saponin extracts. These products were developed in collaboration with three private sector partners who have already assessed market potential and accepted the technology transfer.
Dr. Uracha Ruktanonchai, Director of NANOTEC, stated that the initiative aims to leverage science and technology to improve the quality and competitiveness of Thai herbal products. By providing prototypes that allow entrepreneurs to test target markets and evaluate production costs, the project seeks to bridge the gap between academic research and commercial viability.
For residents and travelers, this development highlights the ongoing modernization of Thailand’s traditional herbal industry. While these products represent a significant step in research application, it remains to be confirmed when these specific items will be widely available on retail shelves and how they will be priced for the general consumer market.
