Large Concrete Debris Falls from Ekkachai Interchange Bridge
Authorities have cordoned off an area under the Ekkachai Interchange in Bangkok after a large concrete fragment fell from the structure.
On the evening of August 26, 2026, a large piece of concrete measuring approximately 50x30 centimeters and weighing about 50 kilograms fell from the Ekkachai Interchange bridge in the Bang Bon district of Bangkok. According to a report by Khaosod Online, the incident occurred near Bangpakok 8 Hospital, at the intersection of Ekkachai Road and Kanchanaphisek Road.
Upon inspection, officials from the Department of Highways and local district personnel discovered the debris on the sidewalk beneath the bridge. Additionally, a street lighting cable was found severed and hanging from the structure. In response to the potential safety risk, authorities have cordoned off the area to prevent injuries to pedestrians and motorists while they assess the structural integrity of the bridge and conduct necessary repairs.
For residents and travelers in the area, this incident highlights a potential safety hazard regarding aging or damaged infrastructure. While the immediate area has been secured, it remains to be confirmed whether the bridge sustained further structural damage that could lead to additional falling debris.
