Local authorities in Mae Poen district are investigating reports of a tiger attack on livestock after a calf was killed and dragged into a cassava field.
On August 26, 2026, officials in Mae Poen district, Nakhon Sawan, responded to reports of a tiger attack in the Ratsami Sangsan village area. According to Khaosod Online, a local resident reported that a calf weighing approximately 80 kilograms was taken from a livestock pen on the night of August 25. The animal was reportedly dragged about 100 meters into a nearby cassava field, where it was found partially consumed.
District Chief Aram Yankaeo inspected the site and confirmed the presence of large paw prints. In response, local authorities have organized village patrols and advised residents to improve lighting and reinforce livestock enclosures as a precautionary measure. Officials are currently working to determine the origin of the tiger, with theories ranging from a research-tracked animal to one that may have wandered from its usual habitat.
For residents and visitors in the area, this incident serves as a reminder to exercise caution, particularly during nighttime hours. While officials noted that tigers typically avoid human contact, the situation remains under investigation. Authorities expect forestry conservation units to arrive soon to either capture the animal or drive it back into the forest.
