Som Tum Vendor Appeals for Return of Heirloom Jar After Fourth Burglary
A Nonthaburi street food vendor has filed a police report after her shop was burglarized for the fourth time, specifically requesting the return of a sentimental 30-year-old jar.
On August 26, 2026, a 55-year-old Som Tum (papaya salad) vendor named Ms. Boonthian reported a burglary at her shop located in Soi Rattanathibet 18, Nonthaburi province, to the Rattanathibet Police Station. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, this incident marks the fourth time her shop has been targeted by thieves. While she had previously chosen not to report the three prior break-ins, the latest theft prompted her to seek police intervention.
The perpetrator reportedly broke the locks on her storage cabinets and ice chests, stealing various cooking supplies, including chili, fish sauce, salt, charcoal, and fermented fish (pla ra). However, the vendor’s primary distress concerns a specific 30-year-old 'Dragon Jar' used to store her fermented fish. She explained that she brought this heirloom from her hometown to use in her business, and it holds significant sentimental value. She stated that while she is willing to let the thief keep the fermented fish, she is pleading for the return of the jar itself.
