The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is evaluating Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) as a potential carbon-free energy source to support the nation's Net Zero goals.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is actively promoting the integration of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) into the national power grid. During the 'NEW ENERGY FOR THAILAND' seminar, Ekarat Samintrapanya, EGAT’s Assistant Governor for Power Plant Planning, highlighted SMRs as a key component of the organization’s 'Triple S' strategy.
EGAT emphasizes that SMR technology offers a stable, 24/7 power supply without carbon emissions, positioning it as a viable solution for Thailand’s transition toward Net Zero. The agency has outlined a five-phase plan to engage the public and build understanding regarding the safety protocols and operational benefits of these reactors.
For residents and travelers, this development signals a long-term shift in Thailand’s energy infrastructure. While SMRs are touted for their high safety standards and consistent output, the project is currently in the public awareness and planning stage.
