Australia Bans AI-Generated Music from Official Charts
The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) has announced a ban on AI-generated music from its official charts to protect human artists.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, the Australian music industry is implementing a new policy to exclude music created entirely by artificial intelligence from official charts and award eligibility. This decision follows growing concerns regarding the impact of generative AI on the livelihoods and income of human musicians.
The move was prompted by the success of an AI-modified version of Madonna’s "Like a Prayer," created by an Australian producer. This track reached number two on the ARIA Top 20 singles chart in May and remained in the top 20 for 16 weeks, sparking a national debate about the role of technology in the music industry. As of last Tuesday, the track was still holding the number four position.
