Cyber Police Arrest Temple Worker for Spreading Misleading Protest Videos
Authorities have arrested a temple worker in Nonthaburi for allegedly circulating old political protest footage as current events.
On August 26, 2026, Cyber Police (BOCYBER) conducted an operation in Bang Yai, Nonthaburi, resulting in the arrest of a 39-year-old temple worker identified as Somsak. According to Khaosod Online, the arrest followed an investigation into the dissemination of false information on social media.
Police allege that the suspect repeatedly posted archived videos of past political demonstrations, accompanied by captions suggesting they were occurring in real-time. This practice reportedly misled the public into believing that current civil unrest was taking place. During the raid, officers seized electronic devices, including a mobile phone and computer, along with digital files and communication logs linked to the alleged editing and distribution of the content.
For residents and travelers, this incident highlights the importance of verifying the source and date of viral social media content, particularly regarding political demonstrations, to avoid confusion or unnecessary alarm. While the suspect is currently in custody, authorities have indicated that four additional suspects are being sought in connection with the case.
