Dengue Fever Cases Rise in Thailand: Health Officials Issue Warning
Thailand's Department of Disease Control reports over 21,000 dengue fever cases and 31 deaths since the start of 2026, urging continued vigilance.
According to a report from Khaosod Online Thailand published on August 26, 2026, the Department of Disease Control (DDC) has issued a warning regarding the ongoing spread of dengue fever across the country. Data collected between January 1 and August 19, 2026, indicates that Thailand has recorded 21,620 cumulative cases of the virus, resulting in 31 deaths.
Dr. Anek Mung-omklang, Deputy Director-General of the DDC, noted that while current infection rates remain lower than those observed during the same period last year and fall below 2026 projections, the trend is currently increasing as the country enters the peak transmission season. In Bangkok specifically, the Health Department has documented 1,785 cases and four fatalities.
For residents and travelers, this development highlights the importance of mosquito bite prevention and the elimination of breeding grounds. Health authorities are emphasizing the '3 Cleans' measure—keeping homes clean, disposing of waste, and covering water containers—to reduce mosquito larvae. While the situation is being monitored, the necessity for ongoing disease control measures in areas with clusters of infections remains a priority.
