Authorities Seize 146,000 Methamphetamine Pills in Khon Kaen
A village headman discovered a large cache of methamphetamine abandoned in a wooded area in Khon Kaen province, leading to a police investigation.
On August 26, 2026, local authorities in Khon Kaen province seized 146,000 methamphetamine pills found abandoned in a wooded area near Ban Bueng Kae, located in the Non Thon sub-district. According to Khaosod Online, the discovery was made by the village headman, Prayong Meesin, while he was conducting a routine security patrol alongside local administrative officials and community volunteers.
Upon discovering fertilizer sacks containing the illicit substances, the village headman immediately alerted the Welaewan Police Station. District officials, including the Mueang Khon Kaen District Chief, Pichai Wanta, and the Superintendent of Welaewan Police, Police Colonel Phiphat Phimklom, arrived at the scene to secure the evidence. Initial estimates value the seized narcotics at approximately 2 million baht.
Authorities suspect that the drugs were left in the brush by traffickers, intended for a later pickup by a distribution gang, but were discovered before the transfer could occur. Police are currently investigating the origin of the shipment and attempting to identify the individuals responsible for abandoning the cache. For residents and visitors in the area, this incident highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to curb drug trafficking in rural communities. While the immediate threat has been removed, the investigation remains active as police work to track down the suspects involved.
