Thailand Promotes 'Digital Highway' to Attract Global Tech Investment
The Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) is positioning Thailand as a regional hub for global hyperscalers by highlighting its digital infrastructure.
According to a report by Prachachat Business on August 26, 2026, the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) is actively promoting Thailand’s 'digital highway' infrastructure to attract investment from global hyperscalers. The agency identifies this infrastructure as a key competitive advantage for the nation.
Despite this progress, depa emphasizes that the effective integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to boost national productivity remains a significant challenge. To address this, the agency is prioritizing the development of a skilled workforce in Deep Tech and AI. This initiative aims to support five key industrial sectors: finance, manufacturing, logistics, retail, and content creation. Furthermore, depa is working on the development of a 'Thai LLM' (Large Language Model) to reduce the economic leakage caused by reliance on foreign-developed AI systems.
For residents and travelers, these developments suggest a long-term shift toward a more technologically integrated economy. While the digital infrastructure may improve connectivity and service efficiency in the future, the actual impact on daily digital services and the success of the Thai LLM project remain to be confirmed. The agency’s focus on human capital development indicates that Thailand is preparing for a transition toward a more sophisticated digital ecosystem, though the timeline for these industrial improvements is still evolving.
