16-Year-Old Arrested in Bangkok for Modifying and Selling Firearms Online
Thai authorities have apprehended a teenager in Bangkok for allegedly manufacturing and selling illegal firearms through private online groups.
On August 26, 2026, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD) of the Thai police conducted a raid on a condominium in the Chaeng Watthana area of Bangkok’s Lak Si district. According to Khaosod Online, officers arrested a 16-year-old suspect accused of modifying firearms and advertising them for sale within private online social media groups, which reportedly had hundreds of members.
During the search, authorities seized a modified 9mm handgun resembling a Beretta, which lacked registration marks and serial numbers. Additionally, they recovered a firearm frame and various ammunition. The suspect has been transferred to the Thung Song Hong Police Station for further legal proceedings.
For residents and travellers, this incident highlights ongoing efforts by Thai law enforcement to curb the illicit trade of weapons via digital platforms.
