Chulalongkorn University Discusses Mediation Cooperation with IOMed
Chulalongkorn University’s Council President met with the Secretary-General of the International Organization for Mediation to explore partnerships in conflict resolution and peace promotion.
On August 25, 2026, Professor (Special) Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, President of the Chulalongkorn University Council, hosted Professor Teresa Cheng, Secretary-General of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed), at the university’s Maha Chulalongkorn Building. Professor Cheng, a former Secretary for Justice of the Hong Kong SAR, visited to discuss potential collaborations between IOMed and the Secretariat of the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council (APRC), which is based at Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Political Science.
The discussions focused on strengthening international mediation efforts, specifically addressing disputes between states and private entities. Both parties explored avenues for academic cooperation, including the promotion of conflict resolution education and initiatives aimed at fostering peace, with a particular emphasis on youth engagement. Dr. Sorajak Kasemsuvan, a member of the university council, was also present during the meeting.
