Ayutthaya Woman Admits to Fabricating Robbery and Assault Claim
A 28-year-old woman in Ayutthaya has confessed to staging a violent robbery and attempted sexual assault, ending a police investigation into the alleged incident.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, a 28-year-old woman has admitted to fabricating a story regarding a violent encounter in the Sam Tum sub-district of Sena, Ayutthaya. The woman had previously claimed that on August 21, two men on a motorcycle intercepted her while she was commuting to work, forced her to a secluded location 12 kilometers away, bound her, and attempted to sexually assault her. She further alleged that the perpetrators stole 2,000 baht and used her phone to send threatening messages and images of her bound state to her boyfriend, which prompted a police rescue operation.
Following intensive questioning by authorities, the woman confessed that the entire incident was staged. This revelation concludes the police investigation into the reported crime. For residents and travelers in the region, this case serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying reports of criminal activity, as false claims can divert significant law enforcement resources. While the immediate threat described in the initial report has been debunked, it remains to be seen if the woman will face legal consequences for filing a false report or causing public alarm. Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific motivations behind her decision to fabricate the event.
