Rayong Cultural Officials Investigate Legendary 'Hong Cave'
Cultural authorities in Rayong have inspected a newly rediscovered cave linked to local folklore, with plans to explore its potential as a historical learning site.
On August 25, 2026, officials from the Rayong Provincial Cultural Office, led by Director Suwannee Suksuwan, visited the Krachet sub-district to inspect a site known as 'Hong Cave' (Swan Cave). The cave, located in Mu 10, has long been the subject of local legends involving ancient Thai music and artifacts, as well as the origin story of the nearby Wat Thong Hong temple.
According to Khaosod Online, the site was rediscovered after local residents, who recalled stories from their childhood, searched for the cave entrance. The landowner, identified as Mrs. Chian, confirmed the site's existence, noting that previous explorers had turned back due to the cave's extreme depth and cold temperatures. She has expressed willingness to allow public access, hoping the site can be developed into a historical learning center.
For residents and visitors, this discovery highlights the intersection of local oral history and geography. While the cave is now officially recognized by local authorities, its historical significance remains to be confirmed. No formal archaeological records exist, and the nature of the 'bronze swan' and other artifacts mentioned in folklore has yet to be verified by experts.
